The gastritis Creator

Your body isn’t out to hurt you. It is an intelligence system that wants nothing but the best for you no matter how you treat it. Give your body a little bit more credit than it being a broken down machine. I believe that illness is a feedback mechanism that lets us know when something is emotionally bothering us under the surface; that we may or may not be conscious of. Are there physical factors involved in illness? YES! Can studies and evidence-based medicine be the only pieces of the puzzle that matter? I don’t believe this to be true. Gather as much information as you can physically, emotionally and spiritually before making any decisions involving your body. Be your best advocate.

With Love, Rachel Reimer

An Illustration of the Gastritis Creator

Imagine that you sit down with a loved one to play a game of chess. You find a piece that you want to move but it is stuck to the board. No matter what you do, you can’t get the piece to move. It is not able to participate in the game. That piece just exists.

Zoom in to each individual chess piece now to see their faces. Picture that each piece starts to come alive as if they were part of the movie Toy Story. This chess piece that is unable to move believes it only has a purpose if it is actively able to move, play or participate in the game. When this piece isn’t able to move, play or participate in the game, it feels inherently hopeless/pointless.

It doesn’t matter what piece of the game feels this way, all pieces have the capacity to feel inherently hopeless/pointless (from pawn to queen). Each piece is not inherently hopeless even if it can’t move, play or participate in the game in its traditional way.

Perhaps this piece could be taken off the board with some rubbing alcohol and set on bookshelf as a decoration. Maybe it could be put with a wooden block set that a toddler loves to play with after prying it off the board with a flathead screwdriver. Once the piece is off the board, you could also use it as a literal reminder that you can create a different life or game for yourself and don’t always have to participate in the game that you feel obligated to.

Therapeutic Considerations

The word “creator” is used very intentionally. If an individual can live out the illustration of The Gastritis Creator over and over again, it is CREATED. Here are questions that I encourage you to journal about and/or discuss with your counselor.

*Do not sit and think about these questions. Get the thoughts out of your body through writing or speech. A true, unbiased, analysis of oneself can not happen within just the contents of one’s own mind.

  1. What about life feels inherently hopeless or pointless if you can’t move, play or participate in the way that you want to?

  2. Who has told you or made you feel like you are inherently hopeless or pointless? What gives them the authority to decide this?

  3. What standards have made your feel inherently hopeless or pointless?

  4. Do you believe people that don’t traditionally move, play or participate in the game are inherently hopeless or pointless?

  5. Why have you chosen to play this game of chess with this specific player?

  6. Do you believe that your higher power believes that you are inherently hopeless or pointless?

  7. Why do you feel like you HAVE to move, play or participate with this specific piece in your life?

  8. Is your higher power keeping your piece in place in your best interest? Is higher power working against you? Does higher power do things to help you even though you can’t see the help in the immediate moment? Has higher power ever stopped you from moving, playing or participating and it has helped you in the past? (Thank GOD I didn’t go through with that!)

  9. What inherent value do YOU believe that you have?
