The Crohn’s Disease Creator

Last Update: 12-7-2023

Your body isn’t out to hurt you. It is an intelligence system that wants nothing but the best for you no matter how you treat it. Give your body a little bit more credit than it being a broken down machine. I believe that illness is a feedback mechanism that let’s us know when something is emotionally bothering us under the surface that we may or may not be conscious of. Are there physical factors involved in illness? Absolutely. Can studies and evidence-based medicine be the only pieces of the puzzle that matter? I think not. Gather as much information as you can physically, emotionally and spiritually before making any decisions involving your body. Be your best advocate.

An Illustration of the Crohn’s Disease Creator

The Crohn’s Disease Creator HATES to be controlled. When the fear of being controlled starts to arise, the Crohn’s Disease Creator will act out in a large retaliation and then act in.

For example, it’s Christmas time and the Crohn’s Disease Creator is excited to decorate their condo. They decorate their condo to the nines externally with beautiful Christmas lights. A day later, they receive a notice from their HOA that they aren’t allowed to hang any lights outside of their home. Out of retaliation, the Crohn’s Disease Creator takes all of their outdoor lights and strings them inside. Additionally, The Crohn’s Disease Creator goes to the store and buys all of the Christmas lights that the store has left in stock. The Crohn’s Disease Creator then proceeds to fill every square inch of their home with Christmas lights. Proud with their retaliation, they open up all of their windows and doors in their home so everyone in the neighborhood can see their work. In their mind, they told the HOA to “F off. It’s my life and I can do what I want!”

After the initial rebellion/anger/hurt starts to wear off, the Crohn’s Disease Creator starts to enter a period of contemplation. Asking themselves:

“Did I go too far?”

“Is this ridiculous?”

“Did I really need to do _______to make a point?”

The consensus typically is “Yes. I went too far.” Once the conclusion is “I acted too harshly.”, The Crohn’s Disease Creator starts to punish themselves internally. It is a boxing match within their own intestines. Perhaps even biting a piece of intestine and chewing it off. (Similar to when Mike Tyson bit off a piece of Evander Holyfield’s right ear during a 1997 fight.) It is a battle of acting out too harshly vs acting in too harshly. Harmony is rare within The Crohn’s Disease Creator’s space.

THERAPEUTIC CONSIDERATIONS

The word “creator” is used very intentionally. If an individual can live out the illustration of The Crohn’s Disease Creator over and over again, it is CREATED. Here are questions that I encourage you to journal about and/or discuss with your counselor.

*Do not sit and think about these questions. Get the thoughts out of your body through writing or speech. A true, unbiased, analysis of oneself can not happen within just the contents of one’s own mind.

  1. What fights have I picked within the past few years and why?

  2. Have I been willing to hurt myself to get back at someone else? If so, how?

  3. Did the person that made me angry/tried to control me, do it specifically to me and only me?

  4. What control do I lack no matter what?

  5. What do I want to do with the excess time I have; now that I am not planning on how to get back at someone who hurt me/made me angry?

  6. When I feel resentment start to build up, what do I do with it?

  7. Is there a way to reach a solution that feels good, without provoking a fight?

  8. What resistance do I feel when I think about apologizing for my acting-out behavior?

  9. When I go “too far”, what can I do instead of beating myself up/punishing myself (acting-in behavior)?
